The YMCA of San Diego County is looking for professional, passionate, flexible and excited candidates to work in their Aquatics department as a Swim Instructor II.  The Swim Instructor II is at least 16 years of age and holds a valid certificate in swim instruction, and has 6 months or more of experience teaching swimming lessons. This position provides specific instruction to and supervision of participants in YMCA swim lesson programs. Creating nurturing environments in which children and adults can learn to swim and can improve upon their swimming skills is the main job of the Swim Instructor II. They keep a trained eye on their swimmers for proper technique because they are passionate about swimming. Ideal candidates swim confidently, behave professionally, provide constructive feedback, and ensure a swimmer meets specific goals. Not currently certified?   • Ensures that practice time is sufficient for all students to learn skills.
  • Follows logical skill progressions
  • Recognizes and corrects improper strokes or skills using positive feedback.

  • Models the 4 Core Values in all aspects of position responsibilities
What We Look For in a Swim Instructor II…
  • Minimum 16 years of age and 6 months of experience teaching swimming lessons
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) Certification or American Red Cross WSI Certification (must obtain YSL within 6 months)
  • Current CPR PRO/AED and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Current First Aid certification and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Current O2 certification and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Must pass written and practical skills exam prior to duty
  • Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents, and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations
  • Ability to observe participant activities adequately, to enforce safety regulations and to apply appropriate policies and procedures.
