SUMMARY

Under general supervision, assists the Youth Coach with the planning, organization, and supervision of the Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA)  swim team programs for participants 5-18 years of age.

Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from Assistant Youth Coach I or, when filled from the outside, require previous and directly related experience. Level and starting salary will depend upon the successful candidate’s education, knowledge, training, experience, and certifications.

Assistant Youth Coach I:
This is the entry-level class in the Assistant Youth Coach series. Incumbents entering this class have limited related work experience.

Assistant Youth Coach II:
This is the journey-level class in the Assistant Youth Coach series.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists with designing and implementing practices, workouts and training. Assists with setting up and taking down equipment. Assists with instructing swimming skills to participants of various levels. Ensures all possible safety measures are observed. Identifies and reports any hazards. Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems. Responds to emergency situations as required; maintains and forwards accurate accident and incident reports to supervisor. Reports any issues and concerns to supervisor. Attends trainings and meetings as required. Complies with city and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures. May act in Youth Coach’s absence. May be required to work weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Assistant Youth Coach I:
Requires one season of competitive swimming experience or participation. Must be at least 16 years of age. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Assistant Youth Coach II:
Requires two seasons of competitive swimming experience or participation. Must be at least 18 years of age. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid Colorado driver’s license with a safe driving record. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certificates or the ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire.
